A stomacher is a panel decorated with various elements that is applied to a dress between the neckline and waist. Sometimes also known as a corsage ornament, a stomacher can be presented as part of the corset or in another format depending on the fashion of the time. There are also pieces of jewelry that are applied to this element that may be referred to as “stomacher”. These were popularized in the 15th century and worn by both men and women at the time. In the 17 and 18th centuries, they were popular at different times and in different locations.
