swag | ˈswag
noun
A motif used on a piece of jewelry depicting festoons of foliage, fruit and flowers
Swag refers to a motif used on a single piece of jewelry that depicts a particular type of foliage. This can include fruit, flowers, leaves and plants in general, or an otherwise colorful festoon of plant life. There are several prominent examples of swag in jewelry, including the Queen of England’s ruby and diamond swag demi-parure which is among her more modern pieces of jewelry, gifted in 1985 by the Emir of Qatar. The style was prominent in the Victorian era but persists and has come into popularity several times over the last fifty years.
