Satin finish
sat·in fin·ish | ˈsa-tᵊn fi-nish
noun
A series of tiny parallel lines scratched onto a surface with a wire brush or a polishing tool to produce texture
A satin finish when applied to jewelry provides a brushed-look on the surface of the precious metal of the jewelry piece. It may also be called a brushed or matte finish. The process is completed by applying a series of small parallel lines scratched into the surface of the metal with a wire brush, or a polishing tool. The result of this is to provide a series of textures to the metal that stand out and look different than a high gloss finish. In many cases a satin finish is slightly different from a purely matte finish because it still retains a little bit of the natural shine of the piece.
