Step Cut
step cut | ˈstep kət
noun
A type of cut in which facets are long and rectangular. Can be found on emerald cut, Asscher cut, and baguette cut diamonds.
A step cut diamond is one for which the facets are long and rectangular on the surface of the gemstone. This type of cut may be found on a number of other types of diamonds, including emerald cut diamonds, Asscher cut diamonds and baguette cut diamonds. This type of cut is also strongly preferred for types of colored stones, because the facets get shorter further from the girdle and provide the appearance of steps or gradation that augments the natural elements of such a stone.
