Square Cut
square cut | ˈskwer kət
noun
A style of gemstone cut, resembling the emerald cut
Square cut refers to any type of gemstone that is cut in a square-shape. This style of gemstone cut dates back many years and is close in resemblance to the emerald cut. Modern day uses of square cuts include the princess cut, which is the second most common cut of diamond, and Asscher cuts. Developed in the 1960s, the princess cut is an otherwise brilliant cut diamond but with a square shape to it instead of the more common round shape. There are other types of square cuts that have more truncated corners or other adjustments based on aesthetic and setting preferences.
