Peridot

noun
A yellow-green, transparent variety of Olivine
Peridot is a semi-precious gemstone that presents as a yellowish green variety of Olivine. Peridot, while not as rare as many gemstones, is unique in that it forms in molten rock on the upper mantle of the earth rather than in the earth’s crust. Because it forms so deeply, it is incredibly rare to find gem-quality peridot that hasn’t been weathered or impacted by the path to the surface. Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August and historically has been associated with healing and treating mental health issues. The origin of the name is unknown, though there are several references dating back to the earliest recorded instances of several languages.
