Pattern
pat·tern | ˈpa-tərn
noun
A general term for repeated, decorative jewelry designs
Patterns are an element of the different styles and trends that influence jewelry and popular fashion throughout history. One of the most rudimentary jewelry design elements, patterns can include specific techniques used to present a certain look or use a certain material or process to treat that material. As examples melee, milgrain and filigree are considered basic jewelry patterns. Other patterns have developed over time related to certain eras of jewelry. The way a ring is set, the stone is cut, or other elements are added to the piece to augment its look are all related to the overall pattern used. This may apply to other types of pieces as well.
