noun
A small particles of matter in the solar system, projected towards earth, that reaches the surface without being completely vaporized
A meteorite is a solid piece of matter that originates on another object in space. This can include a meteor, comet, asteroid, or other solid object flying through space. The meteorite is the remnant of whatever piece broke off of these larger objects and survived the atmosphere to reach the surface of the Earth. Meteorites historically have contained gemstones or other precious metals and are subsequently added to jewelry to provide an interesting and unique origin story for the piece and a more captivating and unique appearance than terrestrial gemstones. Meteorites can come as stony, iron, or a mix of the two, as well as inclusions of other substances that survive the transit in space.
