noun
A borosilicate of aluminum that occurs in rhomboidal crystals and is used as a gemstone
Topaz is a naturally occurring borosilicate of the element, aluminum that is commonly used as a gemstone due to its naturally occurring characteristics. Topaz is a hard stone when mined, but can be susceptible to breaking if not handled carefully. Naturally occurring in a range of colors, including blue, green, pink, brown, red, yellow, or white, the most sought after type of Topaz is the Imperial variant, which is golden or orange in color. Blue is also highly sought after, because it can be treated with heat to enhance the color to a much richer hue. Topaz is the birthstone for November and is commonly associated with love and affection.
