Tin

tin | ˈtin

noun

A malleable, silvery, metallic element which is not easily oxidized in the air and so is used chiefly to coat iron to protect it from rusting

Tin is an element on the periodic table with the atomic number of 50. A metallic, silver-like metal, tin is very malleable and has a number of practical applications. It does not oxidize easily and is therefore commonly used to coat other metals that are prone to rust, such as iron. Tin is found in Cassiterite ore as an oxide. It is used in a number of alloys because of these natural characteristics and is most commonly used in things like tin foil or canning goods because it is malleable but durable. It is also used to alloy with mercury to create reflective surfaces for mirrors of different types.
