Toggle clasp
tog·gle clasp | ˈtä-gəl klasp
noun
A means of fastening two ends of a chain together, consisting of a ring on one end and a short bar on the other
A toggle clasp offers a means by which two ends of a chain can be fastened together. The toggle clasp consists of a single small ring on one end and a shorter bar on the other that clasp together to keep the chain closed. The bar slides through the ring and sits across it. When pulled, the bar will keep the chain from coming apart. As such, it is considered a low tension, effective clasp for lightweight jewelry. More robust clasps that close and hold a chain together are commonly used for more elaborate or heavier jewelry, but toggle clasps are relatively commonly otherwise.
