Table Percentage
ta·ble per·cent·age | ˈtā-bəl pər-ˈsen-tij
noun
The diameter of a gemstone, divided by the size of the table
The table percentage refers to the total diameter of the gemstone divided by the size of the table. This is the percentage of the total stone diameter that is accounted for by the table size at the top of the stone. The table on a round brilliant diamond consists of an octagonal space around which eight star shaped facets are found. Table percentage is generally considered to be directly related to the brilliance of diamond. It is actually important for it to be carefully balanced, typically between 55-60% to ensure that the fire and brilliance in the bezel and upper girdle remain consistent and that the light is distributed appropriately throughout the stone.
