Gemstone Certificate

gem·stone cer·tif·i·cate | ˈjem-ˌstōn sər-ˈti-fi-kət

noun

An official document, which is universally accepted to verify a stone's specifications and value

A gemstone certificate is an official document provided by a licensed laboratory that verifies the authenticity of a specific gemstone. These documents are widely accepted as verification of a stone’s value and specifications, and for diamonds will provide confirmation of color and clarity grades as well as weight. The certification may also provide a summary of any markings or flaws in the stone and will document any inscription on the stone that indicates its origin. Common certifications provided for diamonds include those issued by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and AGS (American Gem Society).
