Grill
grill | ˈgril
noun
A removable jewelry piece worn over the teeth, often made of precious metal and set with precious gemstones
A grill is a piece of removable jewelry worn over the teeth. Sometimes also called grillz, golds, or fronts, the grill can be made from any combination of precious metals and gemstones, and rose in popularity within hip-hop culture, starting in 1980’s New York City, then 1990s in California and the mid-2000s in the southern United States. The term is somewhat interchangeable for a number of different types of mouth-worn jewelry. Grills today are made from custom molds provided by dentists and can therefore be more easily removed than early grills that could involve tooth modification.
