A round cut diamond is one that has a round shape, meaning it can refer to any of a number of specific styles of diamond cuts. Modern round diamonds typically have 57-58 facets and most frequently refer to the brilliant cut diamond. However, other cuts of round diamonds include the rose cut, popularized in the 1700s and consisting of 3-24 facets and the Old European Cut which the brilliant cut supplanted in the 20th century as the dominant cut of diamond. Round cut can refer to any style or type of diamond that has a round shape, however, which is most diamonds bought and sold today.
