Regard

re·gard | ri-ˈgärd

noun

A piece of jewelry with multiple stones types whose first letters can all be concatenated to spell out a word

A regard is a particular type of jewelry that was popularized during the Victorian era in a number of unique forms. Such a piece of jewelry has multiple stones in it, the first letters of which can be concatenated to spell a specific word that has a special meaning to the wearer. The term “regard” derives from a specific combination of gems: Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby, and Diamond. In such a piece, often in a ring or a brooch, these gems are set in such a way to spell out the word in question. Other words may be spelled with regard jewelry as well. These are popular antique pieces today.
