Inlaid

in·laid | ˈin-ˈlād

adjective

Decorated with a material set into a surface

Inlaid refers to a piece of jewelry that has a series of channels or voids in the metal in which gemstones or other decorations are inlaid. Inlaid jewelry or “inlay jewelry” is considered difficult to craft, and therefore professional jewelers work for many years to perfect the craft. A high-quality inlaid piece of jewelry will ensure the channels have an angle or a groove that locks so that the gemstone cannot fall out without there needing to be additional soldering or other modifications to the original piece.
