The Hope Diamond is considered one of the most famous gems in the world. Currently residing in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., the 45.52 carat Hope Diamond is a blue diamond that has changed hands countless times over the nearly four-hundred years that have been recorded of its existence. The stone was mined in India and its earliest record of sale dates to 1666, but it’s unknown when it was originally mined or who originally owned the diamond. Its last owner was Harry Winston, who gifted it to the National Museum of Natural History in 1958 where it has remained ever since. The diamond has an antique cushion cut and is estimated to be worth as much as $350 million USD.
