Halo
ha·lo | ˈhā-lō
noun
A setting that encircles a center gemstone with diamonds or gemstones
A halo setting involves circling a center gemstone with a ring of other diamonds or gemstones to add extra sparkle to the head of the stone without increasing the carat weight of the center stone. These accent stones, often pavé diamonds, are selected and placed specifically to accent the center stone. The halo setting was introduced in the 1920s and remains a very popular design element for rings with center stones. There are a number of different shapes and sizes for halo settings, some matching the shape of the center stone and others offering a unique design accent such as a cushion cut halo being used for a round diamond center stone.
