Eternity Band

eter·ni·ty band | i-ˈtər-nə-tē band

noun

A wedding ring design, which includes a precious metal set with a continuous line of identically cut gemstones

An eternity band is sometimes referred to as an infinity band or eternity ring. The continuous line of gemstones is meant to symbolize eternal love. Eternity bands are traditionally given as an anniversary gift. Such rings trace back to Ancient Egypt when they were given as symbols of lasting love. Modern eternity bands are available in both full and half-eternity options and can feature different types of precious gems, including diamonds, often set in gold or platinum. These rings became popular in the 1960s when DeBeers ran a ubiquitous marketing campaign targeting married men. They are commonly used now to celebrate a major anniversary or a milestone in marriage such as the birth of a first child.
