Jump Ring

jump ring | ˈjəmp riŋ

noun

A small, oval or round wire ring used to link charms or pendants onto a chain

A jump ring is a type of small, oval, or round wire ring that is used to make types of jewelry or chains. Typically used for charms or pendants to form a chain, these types of chains are unique in that they are not soldered shut. When crafted, they are made by wrapping wire around a central mandrel and then cutting pieces from; it to create individual rings. Historically, this method was used to make chain mail, and more recently is used for the creation of things like earrings, ornaments, and pendants. Common materials for jump chains include gold and silver, stainless steel, titanium, and copper.
