A hard, translucent variety of jade which is rarer than the other varieties of nephrite

Jadeite is one of two varieties of jade found naturally and is considered rarer than nephrite. It is harder and translucent and comes in a range of colors including orange, pink, brown, violet, yellow, brown, and black, however green is the most common and coveted of these colors. Jadeite is mined primarily in Myanmar, where 70% of the world’s supply is found. It is used in jewelry, ornamentation, art, and a number of other applications still, and is has a long-standing history as a highly valuable mineral and resource, especially in Asia.
