Floral

flo·ral | ˈflȯr-əl

adjective

A general term for jewelry design elements which depict flowers, leaves, vines, or plant-like shapes

Floral jewelry refers to any piece that uses flowers, vines, leaves or other plant-like shapes. Because flowers are considered a pristine representation of nature, a delicate offshoot of the plants that represent life, they have been a natural inspiration for jewelry for centuries. Flowers are also deeply symbolic, with almost every flower representing a certain emotion or mental state. As such, brooches, necklaces and rings with floral patterns can be used to convey a mood or make a statement in settings both political and personal. Examples of floral jewelry can be found dating back to antiquity, but what we think of today as floral was introduced during the Georgian Period, when floral designs were used in rings. While the styles and methods of creating floral jewelry have evolved, it remains one of the most popular types of designs in jewelry to this day.
