Fancy Cut

fan·cy cut | ˈfan(t)-sē kət

noun

Any style of diamond cutting other than the round brilliant

The cut of a gem refers to the specific means by which the jeweler shapes the gem. It is one of the four C’s of grading, but the other three are typically natural elements, where the cut is determined by the skill of the jeweler in shaping a natural stone. There are several cuts of gems that are considered “fancy cuts”, consisting of most styles that are not round brilliant cuts. These include cushion cut, shield cut, oval cut, heart cut, princess cut, marquise cut, emerald cut and baguette cut, Asscher cut, radiant cut, pear cut, and several other specialty cuts specifically designed for certain situations or settings.
