noun
A cleaning device for jewelry that removes dirt through the use of ultrasonic waves
An ultrasonic cleaner is a type of device that is used to remove dirt from jewelry using ultrasonic waves. Jewelry is placed inside of a tank of cleaning solution. The machine is then activated and ultrasonic vibrations are applied to the contents to break apart the dirt particles and clean the jewelry. Because jewelry is worn on the body, it can develop layers of dirt, often in places that cannot be otherwise reached. An ultrasonic cleaner is able to get into these crevices and between joints to remove things effectively. NOTE: Certain gemstones can be damaged by an ultrasonic cleaner. Be sure to research in advance of using one.
