Oriental Pearl

ori·en·tal pearl | ˌȯr-ē-ˈen-tᵊl ˈpər(-ə)l

noun

A pearl that has formed naturally, with no human intervention

Orient refers to the natural sheen on a pearl and is therefore highly sought after. Because most pearls are cultured today, it is considered highly rare for a natural pearl to develop with these characteristics. Oriental pearls are just such pearls - developed completely naturally and with no human intervention in the form of culturing. Early pearls were discovered thousands of years ago and were so highly sought after because of how rare an oriental pearl was to find naturally. Today, they are still sought after.
