Natural Diamond

nat·u·ral di·a·mond | ˈna-chə-rəl dī-(ə-)mənd

noun

A diamond that was formed in the earth in an uncontrolled environment

Diamonds are a naturally occurring substance that is formed deep in the earth’s crust by the extreme temperatures and pressures they experience. Diamond is formed when carbon materials are put under such a high level of pressure that their atoms rearrange to form a crystal structure. The resulting gem has the highest hardness of any naturally occurring gemstone, as well exceptionally high thermal conductivity, making it not only a highly sought-after gemstone for the purposes of jewelry but also an important tool for industrial applications, including cutting and polishing of other stones. Natural diamonds are those that form in the earth and are brought to the surface by volcanic activity.
