Taking Care of Jewelry: Summer Edition

Spring’s out, rings out! Has the sunshine got your diamonds looking especially sparkly lately? Summer is here, so we’ve compiled some special tips to care for your jewelry this summer.

Safety First!

That ring looks far better on your finger than at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Be very careful with your ring on summer adventures. We recommend taking a small jewelry box with you on a trip (travel box suggestions here), safety pinning jewelry to the inside of a makeup bag or toiletry case, or just leaving it in a safe place at home if you aren’t sure of activities.

Block the Sun, Not the Sparkle

Lotion is a common culprit of dirty jewelry. It gets stuck in small crevices and attracts dirt, as well. Taking your rings off and putting them in a safe place when applying sunscreen is your best bet to keep your diamonds from dulling.

Spring Cleaning

Have you come in for your bi-annual cleaning? This is the perfect time to do it. If you have a ring from us, we know it better than anyone, so we can clean and polish it perfectly. If your ring isn’t from us, we would love to meet you! If you are unable to come in, use a soft toothbrush and give your ring a bubble bath in a small bowl of water and dish soap. Swish it around a few times and dry with a soft cloth.

Travel Tips

Traveling with jewelry is usually completely fine, but if you are not quite familiar with the area or country you’re traveling to, it may be wise to leave the big diamonds at home. Many people only wear their wedding band when traveling, or you may consider purchasing a travel wedding band, and we can help with that. Better to be safe than sorry! P.S.: Always have your jewelry in your carry-on (not checked) when flying, and confirm your jewelry insurance is still in place before you leave for your trip, just in case.
