Knife Edge
knife edge | ˈnīf ej
noun
A ring whose shank forms a point at the middle point of the band, instead of being rounded or flat
A knife-edge style solitaire diamond ring is one where the shank forms as a single point at the middle of the band, instead of being rounded or flat at that point. These rings, despite their appearance, are generally considered comfortable to wear and are selected to better accentuate the center stone. The crown of the diamond sits on top of the ring shank, and the outer edge is shaped like a ‘V’ pointing away from the finger. Despite this shape and the name, there is no sharpness to the outer edge. There is a unique feel to such a ring and it is recommended to give it a couple of days to acclimate to wearing one.
