Morganite: The Beautiful Gem You Need to Meet
One of the most up-and-coming engagement ring gemstones is morganite. Its deep orange-pink tones go well with all precious metals and add an extra feminine flair. Choosing morganite as a center or accent stone is a selection that singles a bride out from the crowd!

What is it?
Morganite is a salmon-colored variety of beryl, although it can also be found in pink and purple pastel tones. It is a cousin to emerald and aquamarine, as these stones also come from beryl. It was named after J.P. Morgan, the financier, in honor of his support for arts and sciences as well as the gemstone industry. Morganite is sourced in Afghanistan, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Brazil, available in large stone sizes.
What is its value?
Of course, pricing depends on the four C’s (see below), but generally, a morganite is less expensive than a diamond. Since price does not usually increase with size or carat in this case, it is more about the color of the gemstone.

Why is it different?
It is a pastel shade of pink/orange, and is a less common choice because it was only discovered in 1911. A bigger stone is usually better because it provides a stronger color. If you’re after a large center stone, this is the choice for you.

How should I shop for a morganite?
Color: This is an important factor when choosing a morganite. Most people prefer the pink and rose tones. Morganite is usually heat-treated to improve the color; this treatment will not fade, and only improves the pink qualities of the stone.
Clarity: You do not have to worry about clarity as much with morganites. They usually do not have inclusions visible to the eye (a common trait of the beryl varieties).
Cut: Morganite is cut in all shapes and sizes, but the bigger the stone, the stronger the color tends to be. A deeper cut will intensify color.
Carat: As mentioned above, the bigger the stone, the brighter the color will be. Morganites can be a large size.
Summary: If you're set on a certain shade, find stones in that shade first, and then look at the other factors.

Style recommendation?
We recommend pairing morganite with rose gold and accent diamonds to highlight the center stone, but platinum is always a lovely choice for the band as well because the strength of platinum will support the large size of morganite stones best.
