Engagement Ring Description

This dazzling engagement ring features a large oval blue sapphire prong set in the center of a shared prong set diamond halo atop a platinum band. It was created for a couple from Kirkland, WA, who visited our Bellevue, WA showroom personally at the beginning of the custom design process to share their inspiration with our team. They then communicated with us online to provide feedback on the CAD models we created, and they came back into the showroom to view a wax mold before giving final approval to move the piece into production. Center Sapphire

The feature that’s likely to catch your eye first when you view this piece is the center stone. It’s a 3.80 carat oval sapphire with a rich blue color and wonderful fire. The clients were very concerned that the stone be just the right shade, and so they came in to see the stone in person before we set it.

Sapphires are often used in engagement rings, either to complement a large center diamond or as the centerpiece themselves. They come in a wide range of colors, and their relative hardness is only slightly below that of a diamond, ensuring that they can withstand the rigors of everyday wear. Diamond Halo

Surrounding the large sapphire is a ring of 14 round diamonds that are all shared prong set. These create a halo that follows the contours of the oval center stone exactly, helping to increase its shine by reflecting more light up onto it. The diamonds also bring a nice contrast to the piece, and the use of the shared prong setting gives the ring some classical flair. Halo Engagement Rings

Metal and Gemstone Options

The setting and band of this piece are made from platinum, which is a good choice to hold such a large center stone. It’s quite strong but light, and its lovely silvery color offers additional contrast to the sapphire’s rich blue.

Using a different colored metal is certainly an option, however, particularly if you want to take this design in a more vintage direction. For instance, using rose gold would accomplish this while also introducing another layer of contrast and causing the diamonds stand out more. Yellow gold, on the other hand, would help reinforce the classical themes. You may even want to consider a using a different color sapphire in the center to represent something of personal significance to you and your partner.
