This stunning engagement ring features a large oval tanzanite prong set atop a polished white gold shank. It was created for a client from Issaquah, WA, and it’s a great example of the way a minimalist design can create a beautiful and timeless look.

Tanzanite Center

The centerpiece of this ring is a 3.85 carat oval tanzanite with a lovely blue color. It’s cradled in a four-prong setting that rises up from a single point on the 14k white gold shank below. The prongs are large and smooth, providing a nice contrast with the rich color of the tanzanite while complementing its shape nicely.

Tanzanites were discovered relatively recently, with the first known stones dating only as far back as 1967. They are even more rare than diamonds, and they’re only found in one place on Earth. They generally come in between six and seven on the Mohs hardness scale, making them significantly softer than diamonds but still strong enough for use in fine custom jewelry. Band Design

The band of this ring is smooth and flat, tapering gently as it nears the main setting. The top portion then angles up slightly on its way up to meet the side of the tanzanite, while a thinner piece continues across under the stone on the bottom.
